Environmental protection and energy efficiency are top priorities of Sofia Med’s management and the latter are of prime importance in the implementation of the main production and auxiliary activities. This policy confirms our approach to be a part of the global effort to tackle climate change.

The Company is committed to operate with absolute responsibility and respect for the environment and the society. Sound environmental management and effective use of natural resources are one of the most important aspects and are essential to the sustainability of our activities.

As significant consumer of both non-renewable and renewable energy, Sofia Med is committed to buying and using energy in a responsible, efficient, and cost-effective manner with the aim to reduce the carbon footprint.

Within the framework of the environmental and energy management, Sofia Med sets the following strategic objectives:

  • Sustainable use of natural resources
  • Improvement of the energy performance and reducing the carbon footprint and energy costs
  • Improvement of the environmental performance and minimization of potential impacts to the environment and biodiversity

In order to achieve this, the top management of the company commits itself to the following:

  • Operating in full compliance with applicable legal and other requirements (commitment to satisfy) related to use and consumption of energy and water, energy efficiency, carbon emissions and environmental management;
  • Establishing and adhering to mechanisms for monitoring and control of environmental aspects and impacts, risks and opportunities;
  • Sustainable and efficient use of energy and natural resources in our operations;
  • Improve energy efficiency continuously by implementing effective energy management programs that support all operations while providing a safe and comfortable work environment;
  • Optimization of water consumption performance and increasing the water reuse;
  • Evaluate all infrastructure investments and new production processes on the basis of energy and carbon footprint contribution;
  • Develop a strategy to effectively identify and reduce the carbon footprint; both from direct and indirect operations of the Company and its products;
  • Waste management in accordance with the principles of the circular economy;
  • Strive to maximize the use of secondary raw materials in order to contribute to a circular economy and to minimize the carbon footprint;
  • Take the necessary preventive measures to ensure environmental protection for the storage of hazardous substances;
  • Address any potential environmental incidents by following the designated procedure of environmental incident response and relevant incident investigation;
  • Encourage business partners (suppliers, subcontractors) to adopt environmental principles at least as stringent as those adopted by Sofia Med;
  • Engage in industry-standard initiatives to set up a carbon reduction program throughout the value chain and involve all stakeholders;
  • Actively engage with trade and public bodies to develop and implement best practices;
  • Regularly review and report on our performance and ensure continuous improvement.

For policy implementation, the management of the company adheres to the following principles:

  • Having a leading role, timely ensuring of resources in order to meet the targets and objectives;
  • Maintain and develop a modern and effective system for selection, qualification and motivation of the personnel;
  • Ensure transparency and participation in an open dialogue with all stakeholders on environmental management, energy efficiency and climate change issues; 
  • Support the designing and purchasing of energy efficient technological solutions, equipment and services which impact energy performance;
  • Ensure understanding, implementation and maintenance of the declared policy to all levels within the organization.

The objective of the management is to increase continuously the degree and culture of behavior in the Company concerning environmental friendliness, energy efficiency, climate change and sustainability in compliance with the standards ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 50001:2018, considering the context of the organization, the requirements, needs and expectations of interested parties, particularities when implementing its products.
